Chapter Seven

Jayde woke feeling the warmth of the morning sun on her face. Though she had no recollection of getting there, she knew she was in bed. She forced herself to concentrate on the forgotten events of the previous night. Fear swept through her as the memories flooded back. Micah had been hurt. She sat up fast and immediately regretted it. Dizziness swamped her. It was, however, overridden by her worry for the man who was slowly working his way into her heart.

An arm came around her waist, stopping her from getting out of bed. Before she could fight the restraint, a sleepy voice infiltrated her fear. “It’s just me, angel.”

She turned to see Micah lying in her bed. His colour seemed to have returned. Still she couldn’t erase the image of his hole-ridden body from her mind. Reaching over, she pulled the sheets down, exposing his chest. As she ran her hands over the now healed area, she seemed to have forgotten the possible implications of her gentle caress. The sheet tenting had her quickly pulling her hands away. Looking up to apologise, she took in Micah’s lust-filled eyes. He grabbed her wrists, pulling her down against his body. Her own body was suddenly on fire and not from embarrassment. She needed to move away before she did something she wasn’t ready for. Micah must have sensed her internal fight, and thankfully he misread the reason for it.

“Please, Jayde, lay with me. For the next few minutes, let’s just forget everything that has happened in the past and enjoy this moment.”

“What are you doing in my bed, Micah?” she asked, laying her head back on her pillow facing Micah.

“After you fainted last night, we didn’t want to leave you alone.”

She looked around the room. Noticing she was alone with Micah had her asking, “We?”

“My wolf and me.”

Disappointed and hurt at the idea that her fainting episode was the only reason for him being in her bed, she tried to once again sit up. “As you can see, I’m fine. So I guess you and your wolf can leave now,” she said, trying desperately to hide her hurt feelings.

“No, Jayde, I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Then exactly how did you mean it, Micah?” she snapped, confused as to why she was reacting the way she was. She still didn’t trust the man, so why was she hurt by the idea of him only wanting to be with her out of duty?

“I’m not sure whether you have noticed, but we shifters tend to be very possessive and protective of what’s ours. And don’t doubt that you are mine, Jayde,” Micah said intensely. “Anyway, usually I can accept the fact that I have to leave you and give you time to get to know me better, only because I know Patrick, Mac, or TC are here to protect you. But know this, angel. Even though they are like brothers to me, I’ll kill any one of them for stepping foot in your bedroom without me being present.
